Some of you will know that I had a little mishap last week. I fell downstairs and bashed my head. Not exactly sure what happened, but I needed stitches and a short stay in hospital being monitored after a head injury. Other than a sore head, I am doing ok, and realise how it could have been much worse.

I am so grateful to everyone who held me in prayer. I am so grateful to the NHS staff who looked after me. The only other times I have stayed in hospital have been to have my children, so it was a bit of an eye opener. Probably not at my best, I very much wanted to go and have a sharp word with someone in the same ward who was making a lot of noise and being rude to the staff.

Then, bored and scrolling through social media, I came across a quote, “Our job is to love others without stopping to inquire whether or not they are worthy”. Ouch. That told me.

The staff were as kind, professional and compassionate with the other patient as they were with me. She was scared and in pain, and the staff helped ease her worries and made her more comfortable.

It’s easy to judge others. It’s hard to love people we don’t particularly warm to. But that’s what we are called to do. I am going to keep trying, and ask God to help me along the way.

Yours in gratitude,
Wendy
