Dear friends,

This week’s Gospel reading is from Luke 12. 13-21 the parable of the rich fool and is a cautionary tale about how we invest our lives, our resources and the gifts God has given us. Are they aligned with God’s mission and bless our neighbour or are we hoarding for ourselves and our own desires?

The reading has resonated with me and I think it aligns beautifully with what we did yesterday actually.
In collaboration with Louise/Oasis Church again, we hosted our first of three summer vibes family fun mornings and what a fab morning it was. 48 children plus their parents/carers.

A theme of friendship being woven through all of the activities and very happy boys playing football in the rain 🤣. Ahh the simple pleasures in life when you are that age… that cost nothing but build happy memories.

Lots of conversations with parents who came to our Easter events and were excited that we are hosting the summer ones too. They commented on how relaxed it was and such a good vibe. That they got as much out of the morning as the children did, being able to chat to other parents and volunteers. (actually the ladies mentioned that they would love a crafting evening just for grownups and would love to be involved) now that’s building community I thought.

As the conversation flowed, I was shocked to learn how much it costs them to take the children out to do various activities these days, and how these mornings are a real blessing to them. One lady said ‘please thank your volunteers, this means a lot to us and there aren’t as many of these events going on as there used to be’.

With the message of the Gospel in my mind’s eye and our investment of time, talents and SNC for these events, it feels a wonderful expression of what we are being called to as a Church community. And when you come away feeling energised and blessed yourself, you know you are on the right track.
So dear reader, if you would like to join in the fun, help out in any way, or even just help us clear up, we will be doing it again on 14 & 28 August, 10-12noon.

A huge thank you to those who rocked up to help yesterday. Hope to see you at the next one.

Love
Julia
