Dear Friends,
This week we are celebrating Gaudete Sunday, a day of joy within the more thoughtful season of Advent – “gaudete” is Latin for “Rejoice!”. We will light a pink (rose) candle on the Advent wreath and our readings are focused on the joy and hope in Christ’s coming.
At the moment I’m still basking in the joy, hope and love generated by my son Alex’s wedding to Julia last Saturday. It was a day of friends and family from all over the world, smooth organisation and welcome. We want to thank everyone at St Nicolas who helped to make the day so special. Alex and Julia chose two classic wedding readings, 1 Romans 12: 9-21 and 1 Corinthians 13. Familiar readings, but very relevant to today’s world. Practice hospitality, honour one another, live at peace, do not take revenge. But above all, love.
So let us rejoice this Sunday that love came down at Christmas, and it shall be yours and mine.
Yours, in joy, hope and love,
Wendy
